Have you lost your V plates?
If you are a first time voter you'll need to make sure you have enrolled on the electoral register. So why not lose your V plates and get yourself registered?
Being on the electoral register means that you can vote in local, national and European elections. Your vote is your voice and it is your opportunity to have your say on how the county and country are run.
So if you have ever grumbled about the local services or you want to share your opinion on changes to things like university tuition fees or benefits it is time to get yourself registered to vote.
Persons aged 18 and over are entitled to be registered to vote in a Local Election for the local electoral area in which they ordinarily live. Irish citizenship is not a requirement for eligibility to vote in a local election.
Getting to vote is not the only important benefit of registration. Banks and credit reference agencies use the electoral register to check your details. So if you are not registered you might find it difficult to get a mobile phone contract, apply for a credit card or get finance for a car for example.
